Privacy Policy — Obi

Last updated: 14 June 2026

Obi ("the app", "we") is an Android TV app that identifies the vinyl record playing near your device and shows the matching release and synced lyrics. This policy explains what data the app processes and why.

What the app accesses

Microphone audio

When you start a scan, the app listens through your device's microphone to recognize the music that is playing. The audio is converted into an acoustic "fingerprint" on your device and used only to identify the song. We do not record, store, or transmit raw audio, and we do not use the microphone except while you are actively running a scan.

Information sent to third-party services

To identify music and show release details and lyrics, the app sends the minimum data needed to these services, each under its own privacy policy:

Analytics and diagnostics (Google Firebase)

These services may process device and app-instance identifiers. See Google's policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy and https://policies.google.com/privacy.

What we do NOT do

Data retention

We do not maintain our own user database. Aggregate analytics and crash data are retained by Google Firebase according to its standard retention settings.

Children

Obi is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your choices

You can stop all data processing by not running scans and uninstalling the app. To request questions about your data, contact us at the email above.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date will change accordingly.
